Obama establishes an Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force

Once again the administration is working on fundamentally changing the nation’s culture and traditions through its’ environmental agenda and policy of regulation. The target this time is our lakes, coastal beaches and fishing areas.

By establishing the taskforce in June, the President put forward another high speed agenda requiring:

   1. Within 90 days from the date of this memorandum, the Task Force shall develop recommendations that include:

  1. A national policy that ensures the protection, maintenance, and restoration of the health of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems and resources, enhances the sustainability of ocean and coastal economies, preserves our maritime heritage, provides for adaptive management to enhance our understanding of and capacity to respond to climate change, and is coordinated with our national security and foreign policy interests. The recommendations should prioritize upholding our stewardship responsibilities and ensuring accountability for all of our actions affecting ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources, and be consistent with international law, including customary international law as reflected in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
  2. A United States framework for policy coordination of efforts to improve stewardship of the oceans, our coasts, and the Great Lakes. The Task Force should review the Federal Government’s existing policy coordination framework to ensure integration and collaboration across jurisdictional lines in meeting the objectives of a national policy for the oceans, our coasts, and the Great Lakes. This will include coordination with the work of the National Security Council and Homeland Security Council as they formulate and coordinate policy involving national and homeland security, including maritime security. The framework should also address specific recommendations to improve coordination and collaboration among Federal, State, tribal, and local authorities, including regional governance structures.
  3. An implementation strategy that identifies and prioritizes a set of objectives the United States should pursue to meet the objectives of a national policy for the oceans, our coasts, and the Great Lakes.

2. Within 180 days from the date of this memorandum, the Task Force shall develop, with appropriate public input, a recommended framework for effective coastal and marine spatial planning. This framework should be a comprehensive, integrated, ecosystem-based approach that addresses conservation, economic activity, user conflict, and sustainable use of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources consistent with international law, including customary international law as reflected in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

3. The Task Force shall terminate upon the completion of its duties.

The Task Force’s recommendations and frameworks should be cost effective and improve coordination across Federal agencies. – Source: President Obama’s Letter Creating the Taskforce

As has been so often the case with this administration, we have a ridiculous task in size and scope for the timeframe being allowed. This means that the policy is already decided and now begins the full court press to ram it down our throats. This just another prong on the pitchfork of the “green agenda” designed to strip us of our freedom, our sovereignty and drive us toward socialism.

To most this may seem like a benign effort to help protect our natural resources but it is not nearly as innocent as it appears. Policies like this in conjunction with other environmental efforts such as the Endangered Species Act creates regulatory control and avoids the need legislation to set direction of their policies. Think about what is going on – the San Joaquin Valley drought because of a fish which created irrigation restrictions, Cass Sunstein and his Nudge Theory. (you should read his book)  It is all about government control.

America has always been the home of sports anglers, boaters and water enthusiasts of all types. Across the country from the lakes to the beaches swimming, surfing, water skiing, recreational fishing and boating are not only family traditions but are also huge industries. Recreational fishing alone generated $82 billion in sales, $24 billion in income, and supported 534,000 jobs in 2006 according to NOAA’s Fisheries Service.

This isn’t just about recreation either.  Commercial fishing – (fishermen, seafood processors, seafood wholesalers and retailers are a $103 billion a year industry. This industry created $44 billion in income and 1.5 million jobs in 2006, according to Fisheries Economics of the United States 2006.

“The report documents clearly that managing fisheries sustainably is good for the environment and the economy,” said Jim Balsiger, NOAA acting assistant administrator for NOAA’s Fisheries Service. “Fishing helps create a substantial number of jobs around the nation.”

Fisheries Economics of the United States, 2006 is available online:

As usual the Presidents announcement includes the promise that this will all be done, “with appropriate public input” but early reports show just the opposite.

“Important contributions that members of the recreational fishing community made to the Ocean Policy Task Force communicated at our meeting and in our letter were largely ignored in the interim report,” said CSF (Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation) President Jeff Crane. “It is hard to comprehend how the voice of recreational anglers, who were requested to advise the task force and represent such an important constituency on this issue, was so minimized on some very important issues.”

One key issue of concern to the sport fishing community, was the need for differentiation between commercial and recreational fishing. Recreational angling and the critical role it plays in fisheries conservation in the United States was completely missing.

Recreational anglers and the fees they pay for fishing licenses and equipment are critical to conservation management efforts. Funds generated by the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund which is a user-pay/user-benefit program generated $720 million in revenues last year. $402 million of this was distributed to all 50 states to specifically support sport fish restoration programs.

“We are completely baffled as to why the Task Force failed to acknowledge or include any mention of the key aspects of recreational fishing which were presented to them in detail on more than one occasion,” said CSF Board Member Phil Morlock. “The significant number of jobs and the economy which over 60 million American anglers support, and the major conservation efforts by people who fish in all regions of the country were completely ignored. No distinction between the obvious dramatic differences between recreational fishing and commercial harvest methods was made.”

As a sport fisherman myself, I know that the CSF and other sportsmen’s organizations support a healthy ocean, coastal and fishery resources to sustain coastal communities and sound environmental policies in support of protecting our natural resources. These groups also support expanding the scientific basis by which these policies are determined.

Restore the Republic, Reject the “Green Agenda” of the Progressive Left!

Al Gore Unquestionable

On Oct. 9th, former Vice President Al Gore spoke to the Society of Environmental Journalists. He shared his optimism about the “shifting momentum” of the climate change debate with about 500 environmental journalists.

“We’re very close to that political tipping point,” Gore said at annual conference at the Madison Concourse Hotel. “Never before in human history has a single generation been asked to make such difficult and consequential decisions”.

After his speech, Gore agreed to a rare question and answer session with the journalists in attendance.

Phelim McAleer, an Irish filmmaker and director of “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” a documentary challenging Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” dared to ask Gore to address nine errors in his film identified by a British court in 2007. Instead of answering the question Gore ignored the it and tried to turn it around on McAleer.

Since the former Vice President has assumed the mantle of Green Champion he talks out of both sides of his mouth. As a general rule, he refuses Q & A sessions. Al Gore is a fraud He jets around the globe spreading the gospel of environmentalism while leaving a giant carbon footprint as a trail. Meanwhile he is loading his bank account with a fortune he is making as the frontman for this scam.

Watch a video of the exchange below:

Al – you are an embarrassment – Shut up and go back to your Tennessee mansion.

Global warming is a scam. The temperature increases peaked in 1998 and has been declining ever since. It is cyclical and always has been.  In support of weather being cyclical here are a few blast from the past: In 1924 both the N.Y. Times and Time magazine wrote alarming articles about global cooling but by the mid 1930’s both were reporting that we were headed for a period of scary global warming. Then in the mid 70’s, during my high school years, both were back to reporting cooling trends and even a potential second ice age.

There is not conclusive evidence that all of the claims being made by the forces of Al Gore are accurate. In fact there is a large group within the scientific community that do not agree. However, media coverage of this opposing view is limited and most attempts at public debate on the issue gets no notice.

Restore the Republic, Reject the Global Warming Scam – It is a scare tactic to push us toward a world run by the U.N.

The Missing Link …UN Agenda 21

What is  “Agenda 21″  and the yearly “Earth Summit” attended by world leaders? It is the UN blueprint for global transformation defined as:

“Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.”

“When George H.W. Bush signed the Rio Accords at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, he opened the path for the United States to implement U.N. Sustainable Development Agenda 21. When Bill Clinton created the President’s Council for Sustainable Development by Executive Order in 1993, he laid the foundation for a proliferation of intermediate and local councils that would set out to alter radically the structure of government in the United States. These councils operate under many different names. Later under George W. Bush, Sustainable Development policy began to swarm every county in the country”. – Michael Shaw, Proprietor of Liberty Garden

Remember, because agenda technically is a treaty, a president can sign treaties without Congressional oversight or approval. George H.W. Bush has always been a “New World Order” supporter. Now we may find out what that really means.

Some of the objectives of Agenda 21 are: 1) The abolition of private property 2) A Global Citizenship Education Program (think Story of Stuff) and 3) Control over and massive population reduction (think John Holdren and his writings)

George Washington said and warned:  “Private property and freedom are inseparable.”

“Just as man can’t exist without his body, so no rights can exist without the right to translate one’s rights into reality, to think, to work and keep the results, which means: the right of property”.  ~Ayn Rand

Agenda 21 is a treaty that creates a global contract binding all nations and spreading regions to the collective vision of “sustainable development.” All must commit to pursue the three E’s of “sustainability”: Environment, Economy and Equity referring to the UN blueprint for environmental regulations, economic regulations, and social equity. – U.N.

“…current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work-place air-conditioning, and suburban housing – are not sustainable. A shift is necessary. which will require a vast strengthening of the multilateral system, including the United Nations…” – Maurice Strong

I could try and will in future posts to better explain U.N. Agenda 21 but to get a really sense of how far this has already spread and the threat it poses to our national sovereignty as well as to our individual rights; please watch the attached videos. After that visit the links. This is serious, this is real and this is happening. It starts to help bring all the things that don’t make sense into focus. Also please recognize that I am not suggesting that good stewardship is not a worthy goal and activity, just not at the expense of our sovereignty. You can have both.

All of the previous administrations back to 1992 have helped to move Agenda 21 forward. Now with Obama in the White House the agenda is on steroids. Legislation is advancing fast and furious. This legislation supports the foundation of this program – think Cap & Trade, Healthcare Reform. Look at the people that are or were in this administration and consider their well documented personal philosophies; Cass Sunstein, John Holdren and Van Jones. Look at the use of federal agencies to avoid legislative battles by using regulatory authority to force changes that they could never push through with legislation – i.e.: recent changes by the EPA to redefine the “dangers” of greenhouse gas.  Think about the stories in the news that make you scratch your head such as the water crisis in California’s San Jaoquin Valley which is killing one of America’s major agricultural areas in order to “protect” smelt. Think about the education of your children and the indoctrination that is going on in our schools. Think about the propaganda video that George Soros and his Tides Foundation has managed to get into our classrooms – “The Story of Stuff”. Even consider the indoctrination of yourself – the catch phrases such as “Think Globally& Act Locally”. Think about how often you now hear the words – Sustainable Development.  The threat has been woven into the fabric of society and it is hard to separate the good parts from the insidious ones. Sustainable Development is the core of this contrived crisis. As more and more people are sucked into the government driven Sustainable  Development movement, America will suffer through what Al Gore has described as a ‘deserved’,“wrenching transformation”.

Ask yourself – Why and what does it mean? The real and darker purpose of Sustainable Development is to create a government controlled society. A government controlled society is represents the end of America and our way of life.

My goal is not to frighten but rather to educate. The videos below are many and some are long. They are important and you owe it to yourself, your children and their children to watch them. We are at the turning point and we must take action now if we want to save our country. I believe at our core we are still a religous people that values family, faith and country. The Green Movement has become the new religion for some and it is the tool that they will use to “create the crisis” that could trigger the end of our country by using fear, manipulation of the food, energy and healthcare system to achieve their objectives to push us into a world run government. This will as the President likes to say, “Fundamentally transform America”. Look at the U.N. charter, read it and understand that its’ stated objective is “Global Governance”. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights states in Article 29 Section 3 that: “Rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations”.

I do not want to be a conspiracy theorist but there are starting to be too many coincidences. This could lead us to think that at the very least, there might actually be a concerted effort to push the world toward an international governing body.

Again, I ask you watch the videos and follow the links with an open mind. Think about the body of evidence and draw your own conclusions.

How can this happen? Actually it is easy really -I will quote the Conservapuppies Blog, who say it perfectly -
“The majority of the members of Congress probably aren’t even aware of any of what is really going on, they are just “useful idiots” , too lazy to read the bills they are voting on, happy to vote “yes” in return for special favors and pork to take home to the voters”.

A fish may make San Joaquin Valley an endangered species

The bread basket of America is at risk because a 2″ smelt that is an endangered species was being killed by the water irrigation system that watered the valley. Federal guidelines and a court injunction by environmentalist have resulted in the shutdown of the irrigation system. The result is a drastic drop in farm production and 40% unemployment in the valley. Have we lost our minds? We are now putting bait fish ahead of our citizens – this is an outrage! This does not only affect those in the valley – it is going to affect all of us. This is going to effect the price and availability of fresh US grown produce. Do you really want more of the food you eat to come from places like South America, China and Asia? Any samonella concerns there?

Schwarzenegger demands response to water crisis

By GARANCE BURKE Associated Press Writer

Posted: 09/02/2009 02:58:19 PM PDT

Updated: 09/02/2009 06:01:19 PM PDT

FRESNO, Calif.—Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called on the Obama administration Wednesday to intervene immediately in California’s water crisis, saying environmental restrictions that have slashed water deliveries to farms and cities were having “catastrophic impacts.”

The Republican governor sent a letter demanding a federal response to the state’s prior requests to hold talks about reduced supplies from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the delicate ecosystem that serves as the main conduit moving water from north to south.

A three-year drought is to blame for the bulk of the state’s current water shortages, and it has caused cities to ration their supplies and farmers to fallow a quarter-million acres.

The environmental restrictions, which were designed to protect the estuary’s struggling fish populations, also have limited the amount of water pumped to Southern California residents and farmers.

The governor and the farming industry have been pressing the federal government to rewrite plans protecting species like the chinook salmon in a way that will lessen impacts on the water supply.

Idled farmworkers have driven the unemployment rate to nearly 40 percent in some dry pockets of the fertile San Joaquin Valley.

“What is the path forward so we can protect the species as well as the economy?” said California Department of Water Resources Director Lester Snow. “If they have a better way of doing this, they need to come forward with that better way.”

An attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, which has sued to protect the fish, said the restrictions were based on sound science, and would help support commercial fishermen, who have not been able to fish for two seasons because salmon have been so scarce.

A spokeswoman for Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the agency was reviewing the letter.

America, wake up! This is the type of environmental activism that needs to be stopped. Contact your Senators and tell that San Joaquin Valley needs their help!

Quick Hits…… Part 2, Theater of the Absurd

America is now a state run corporation

Today on Fox Business News, former Time Warner AOL CEO Gerald Levin declared, “You know basically what we have now is a new CEO and it happens to be the president of the United States and new CFO that happens to be — Tim Geithner. And I think we’ll never see business as usual again”.  So there you have it – even powerful business leaders are acknowledging that the President has taken the government and is using it to nationalize private businesses. He went on to say, “You know who’s to say, who’s going to do a better job with General Motors or Citibank at this point. Because up until now things have not been going well at all. And it’s time I think not only to put some principals back in executive pay but also trying to get CEOs to be — a part of society. You know let’s shop at Costco and you know let’s fly Coach for awhile and let’s not have a class society where the disparity between what — the CEO makes and what people in the company — is so large. As to be almost unfair and unjust.”….. Seriously? – this guy made tens of millions per year at Time Warner, I’m sure this made him a regular Joe at the office.

However, the message here is the nationalization of American businesses and banks is real and is happening. Capitalism is on the ropes and socialism is on the rise. The question is what are we going to do about it? To see this disturbing interview, go to:

Tough New Obama Terror Policy ……..Enemy Combatants get Miranda Rights!

Miranda rights are being read to suspected terrorists at military detention facilities in Afghanistan. This practice could result in a shift from a war against terrorists to legal battles against criminal defendants.

The Department of Justice acknowledges terrorist suspects have been read Miranda rights, at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and other places but claim it is to “preserve the quality of evidence obtained.”

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-MI of the House Intelligence Committee has visited bases in Afghanistan and Bagram. He said the practice is causing chaos, confusion and frustration in the field.  “We don’t want our soldiers thinking, is this a law enforcement event or is this, a combat event,” Rogers said, “It’s shocking to believe that we’re going to give non-United States citizens in combat zones who are training, equipping and planning to kill United States citizens and our military and treat them as if they’re U.S. citizens and afford them those rights.” Read more below:

Today’s Crazy Quotes from the Left: On The Environment

By David Foreman, co-founder of Earth First!: “We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists and their projects. We must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of acres of presently settled land.”

By Harry Reid, Democrat, U.S. Senate majority leader: “Coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick. It’s global warming. It’s ruining our country. It’s ruining our world.”

By Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.: “Large-scale hog producers are a greater threat to the United States and U.S. democracy than Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network.”

By Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor: ‘Global warming’ will kill most of us, and turn the rest of us into cannibals.”

By Noel Brown, UN official: “Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of “eco-refugees,” threatening political chaos.” (Yes, he meant the year 2000.)

By Paul Ehrlich, professor, Stanford University: “Giving society cheap, abundant energy would be the equivalent of giving an idiot child a machine gun.”

By Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor: “A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.”

By Jeffery Sachs, Columbia University, Director of The Earth Institute: “Obama is already setting a new historic course by reorienting the economy from private consumption to public investments…free-market pundits bemoan the evident intention of Obama and team to ‘tell us what kind of car to drive’. Yet that is exactly what they intend to do…and rightly so. Free-market ideology is an anachronism in an era of climate change.”

By Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth: “A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources.”

These are examples of the agenda of left wing environmentalists. They are dangerous to all Americans. The Waxman Markey Climate Change Bill is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation ever proposed. Please read my previous blogs on the bill and on cap & trade. This legislation will undermine our economy and by doing so our national sovereignty will be put at risk as well.

There are many ways to improve our stewardship of the earth without destroying our country. I support cleaner cars, energy and general environmental stewardship but a balance must be established to protect both our country and our planet. Responsible citizens owe it to themselves and future generations to research the proposals being discussed and make their voices heard. We can not leave our future in the hands of politicians, lobbyists and zealot environmentalists.

And now for a glimmer of hope…………..

East Texas Congressman introduces bill in the House to sunset T.A.R.P. by year’s end

(June 8, 2009)  Rep. Jeb Hensarling R-Texas, introduced a bill which sets a Dec. 31 deadline for the Treasury Department to loan remaining TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) money to banks or forfeit it. Also this week an announcement that some banks will be allowed to repay their TARP loans is expected. These banks, including JPMorgan Chase, American Express Co., BB&T Corp., U.S. Bancorp, Capital One Financial Corp. and Bank of New York Mellon Corp., have passed their stress tests clearing the way for repayment.

Congressional Republicans have been unhappy with the way the TARP money was being used citing that the money was allocated to purchase the “toxic assets” of troubled financial institutions. However, both the Bush and Obama administrations have abused this program loaning money to the automakers and insurance companies as well as banks fueling “taxpayer ownership” of private businesses. In light of this, Republican lawmakers would like to return the unused and repaid money back to the Treasury and terminate the program.

“It’s time to terminate the TARP program,” Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, told reporters. “TARP is increasingly not being a vehicle for economic stability and taxpayer protection but is evolving into 700 billion dollar revolving slush fund that the administration can use to advance economic, social and political agenda items far and apart from what Tarp was ever designed to do.”  He also said his legislation calls for reducing the amount of the TARP program by recalling all currently unspent funds and sets a Dec. 31, 2009 deadline for the allocation of TARP funds. It also kills a provision in last year’s Emergency Economic Stabilization Act that would enable Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to renew the TARP program for two more years.

“The economy is in serious condition but we have gone past the emergency point. I fear that TARP is no longer what Congress thought it was when it passed it and I certainly do not believe it’s what the American taxpayer thought it was,” said Hensarling, who sits on the House Financial Services committee.

It appears that at least one Congressman realizes that the Federal government is not supposed to be buying up private businesses. America needs more of this kind of leadership in Congress!

“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Taylor, May 28, 1816

Quick Hits……. The politics and other nonsense of a world gone mad!

Today’s blog is a series of quick stories. I usually like to more fully explore an issue but at the pace things are happening I can’t write fast enough to keep up. So today I am going clean up a list of accumulating stories into quick hits. You’ll get a short overview and links to the rest of the story.

The Federal Reserve hires a lobbyist to improve image?

The Obama administration wants to expand the authority of the Federal Reserve but recent events have cast doubt about the role of the Fed in helping manage the bail outs and the economy. Enter Linda Robertson, a former Enron lobbyist and Clinton administration Treasury Department aide. She is expected to start at the Fed in July. She will be in charge of congressional affairs. Previously, Robertson had been considered for a senior post at the Treasury Dept. but was removed from the running because of the Obama administration’s rules against hiring lobbyists. The recent problems on Wall Street and Treasury Secretary Geithner’s desire to use the Fed as a regulatory tool to manage large business failures has left Congress questioning how much authority should be given to this independent government agency.

A couple of points to consider; why are lobbyists okay in some jobs and not others, also why does a government entity need a lobbyist to talk to Congress for them? Read more here……

Leading Democrats pushing back on the President over dealership closures!

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer and Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Daniel Maffei have asked other congressional lawmakers to join with them in pushing the administration to answer questions on the forced bankruptcy and reorganization of Chrysler and GM. The issue at the heart of the matter is the forced closure of so many healthy dealerships. Specifically, how will closing these dealers will make the companies more profitable. This is the second time in the last few weeks the democrat controlled congress has stood up to the President ( the first was Guantanamo) Read more here……

 Ginsberg halts Chrysler bankruptcy proceedings

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg issued a stay of the bankruptcy proceedings just a week before the  government-backed sale of Chrysler to Fiat. Three Indiana state pension and construction funds who have secured debt in Chrysler are petitioning the Supreme Court to intervene on their behalf. They are challenging the constitutionality of the Treasury Department’s use of money from T.A.R.P. to finance Chrysler’s bankruptcy protection. They also claim the administration put less qualified stakeholders ahead of their secured debts which goes against the grain of typical bankruptcy rulings. Could this be a win for the Constitution as well as the funds… Stayed tuned, for more of the story, go to:

Unfortunately, before I could finish and post this blog the Supreme Court decided they would not take this case. This is a huge defeat for capitalism. Basically this sets a bad precedent for future bankruptcy proceedings in that it minimizes the rights of secured debtors in the process. The court ruled the plaintiffs had not met their burden of proof which seems like a cop out since the process used broke almost every rule of standard bankruptcy procedure prior to this filing. For more on the courts decision, go to…

Another Czar…… of the Great Lakes, Seriously?

President Barack Obama has tapped Cameron Davis, the leader of a Chicago-based environmentalist group, to head up his initiative to clean up the Great Lakes. He will be responsible for implementing a restoration program expected to cost more than $20 billion. What’s next a graffiti czar to clean up graffiti in major cities? Enough already! Aren’t there civil engineering companies who could run this program on a contract basis? Or how about the Army Corp. of Engineers – after all, they built every major lake in Texas except Lake Caddo which God took care of. Some how I am sure G.E. will get the contract to do the actual clean up.

Nuclear Proliferation can wait……The U.N. seeks to immediately reduce plastic bag proliferation

Proving their priorities are in the right place, Achim Steiner, executive director of the U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) said today, single-use plastic bags should be banned because of their degrading effects on the planet. Claiming the bags choke marine life he stated, they “should be banned or phased out rapidly everywhere. There is simply zero justification for manufacturing them anymore, anywhere.”

It is amazing how swiftly and decisively the U.N. can move when it’s dealing with a “major” issue like the plastic bag. Yet when a rogue nation like North Korea or Iran gives the world “the finger” ignoring U.N. resolutions and making defiant statements they struggle to come up with an “appropriate” response.

For the last few weeks North Korea has performed several missile tests, and the UN Security Council is working toward a denunciation of North Korean defiance . In other words they are drafting another “strong letter of disapproval”.

U.S. participation in the U.N. needs to be reconsidered; the organization has become a joke and an embarrassment.

The Cow Fart Tax……. The next battle in the fight to curb global warming….. Really!

Farting cows and other livestock are a major source of methane emissions into the atmosphere. As a result the EPA is looking for ways to address this greenhouse gas problem. So you won’t be surprised to find out that one of the ways they are considering addressing the problem is through a tax. While I am not sure how this will reduce the gases legislation to impose the tax is working its’ way through a House committee.

According to Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-WI., the ranking member of the House Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming, if this bill becomes law it could have a devastating impact on agribusiness. In the absence of a technology based solution for livestock methane emissions the congressman said, “I don’t know if we’re supposed to develop the technology to strap a catalytic converter on the back of a cow”, since a capture and convert strategy would be a more earth friendly solution than a tax, if global warming wasn’t a myth in the first place. (Please see my 4 part series on The Waxman-Markey Climate Change Bill)

In case you are wondering about the cost of livestock farts, the EPA proposal breaks it down like this, $175 a year on every head of dairy cattle in the United States, $80 for beef cattle and $20 per head of hogs. In a recent blog I joked about a methane tax because it seemed so ridiculous, turns out we now live in theater of the absurd. If this bill passes hamburger will replace steak as a luxury item and the price of food will keep going up. Amazing how every “green” initiative has a negative effect on the price of something. President Obama may have promised income tax cuts for 95% of Americans but by the time he is done with his social reengineering, the economy will be in shambles and inflation will be through the roof. Then everyone will wish for the good old days of higher income tax. By the way vegans beware – beans are next! Read more at:

Two female American journalists sentenced to 12 years in a North Korean labor camp

(AP) – The families of two American journalists sentenced to 12 years in a North Korean labor prison urged its hard-line government to grant them clemency, amid hopes the U.S. government would send an envoy to negotiate their release.

“We remain hopeful that the governments of the United States and North Korea can come to an agreement that will result in the release of the (women),” said a joint statement by their families received Tuesday.

Lee, 36, and Ling — who work for former Vice President Al Gore’s Current TV — were arrested March 17 near the China-North Korea border where they were reporting about the trafficking of women. It’s unclear whether they tried to sneak into the North or if aggressive border guards crossed into Chinese territory and grabbed them, as has happened before.

The North accused the reporters of unspecified “hostile acts” and illegally entering the country, but the formal charges against them were unclear. Their trial, which was closed to foreigners, began Thursday and they were sentenced Monday to 12 years of “reform through labor.”

So far the administration has been mostly quiet on the situation other than to say they will “pursue all possible means to gain their release”. Again, the president faces another test on the world stage and so far it is another show of weakness.

Newsweek promotes Barack Obama from President to…. God?

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas commenting on President Obama’s speech in Cairo declared on MSNBC: “I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.”

Previously, Mr. Thomas had said that Ronald Reagan was all about “America”. He then went on to point out how President Obama was above that saying, “we are above that now. We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, and we’re not just provincial. We stand for something … He’s going to bring all different sides together.”

Okay, seriously is the media so infatuated with this President that they have lost all perspective of what journalism is about. How can Newsweek be considered a serious news magazine if their editor is running around making statements like this?

So far the President’s foreign policy has been both naïve and ineffective. He has yet to gain real cooperation from our European allies, Asia, Russia or anyone in the Middle East. When is this great coming together going to begin? My other concern is what will this great coming together cost America? Our national sovereignty is too high a price! Maybe he will prove me wrong … but for now the promotion seems premature.

We seem to be spinning out of control on almost every front as P.J. O’Rourke once said, “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”
