The Conservative Revolution: The Truth about the Real America

Since early 2009 a conservative backlash has been brewing in America. It started slowly with a few small local Tea Party rallies, mostly focused on the impact of high income tax and excessive government spending on families, the economy and America. Tax Day (April 15th) 2008 marked a turning point as rallies large and small were held across the nation. Suddenly conservatives realized two things – there were a lot more of us than we realized and we could loosely organize to make a difference.

The nationwide Tax Day rallies were the result of a grassroots internet campaign. These rallies were self funded and run almost exclusively at the local level. I know – I was one of the organizers of the St. Paul MN rally held on the steps of the state capitol building. Our rally drew over 7,000 attendees that day. Even in liberal Minnesota there were signs of the coming backlash.

So here we are nearly two years later and halfway through the first term of the Obama presidency. Obama was swept into office with a message of “Hope and Change”. Many of those who voted for him bought into the slick marketing of his campaign. They believed that this president would right the wrongs and end government as usual. He promised fairness as well as a new prosperity that would make America a better place and people bought it. His campaign positioned him as “the post racial president”, a healer and center left moderate but in reality he is a progressive.  As people began to realize who they had elected the euphoria which reined after his election quickly turned to discontentment.

The mood of America is now colored with grim concern. The independents and blue dog democrats that helped elect Obama have come to realize that he does not share their values or belief in the American way of life. In fact, they finally understand what Obama meant when he said that “we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America” in an Oct. 31, 2008 speech in Missouri. Obama and his cohorts would like to create a new foundation for America, a foundation based on progressive values which have their roots in socialism/communism.

Their idea of government would be more of the European model of a socialist democracy with over reaching government controls, entitlements and heavy taxes to support a “nanny state” approach to “social justice”. There are two major problems with this model. First, it doesn’t work. It has not worked anywhere it was tried. It’s already falling apart in the liberals current favorite example of social democracy, Venezuela.  Second, Europe is an economic disaster. Its’ citizens are rioting in the streets as their governments try to figure out how to make good on all the entitlements they promised as their economies tank. (See Greece, France and Portugal for examples) To add additional salt to the wound, European society has begun to spiral out of control as years of “open borders and society” has resulted in a Muslim occupation in some areas of Europe leading to bitter fights over the secular rule of law versus Sharia law. These are all consequences of a social democracy.

If we are not careful we will end up in the same place. Just this year, the Congressional Budget Office said that our national debt as a percentage of GDP will triple by 2035 which would be 185% of GDP. This represents nothing short of an economic train wreck.

To stay on a path that leads to a social democracy would be a fundamental transformation of America! As it turns out though this is not what most Americans want. Most Americans (75% overall) still believe in the American Dream and traditional American values according to recent surveys. Here are some other findings of recent polls that indicate that America is still a Christian leaning, patriotic, capitalist, center right country with traditional values:

  • The majority of Americans in every age group still believe that America is the land of opportunity.
  • 75% of Americans still believe “America is the greatest country in the world”.
  • 80% of Americans claim Christianity as their religion and 50% of Americans believe life in the United States would be better if more people lived Christian values
  • 64% of voters say the country is on the wrong track and this number is steadily increasing.
  • 90% of Mainstream voters favor a free market economy. 75% of likely voters overall believe in a free market economy rather than one controlled by the government.
  • 58% of all voters favor increased competition over increased government regulation as the best way to hold big business accountable.
  • 65% of voters overall, prefer a government with fewer services and lower taxes rather than one with more services and higher taxes. Even 32% of Democrats now prefer a government with fewer services and lower taxes.
  • 83% of Americans believe it is somewhat likely that the federal government will have to cut government spending in the next 10 years.
  • 53% of likely U.S. voters favor repeal of the health care law, including 43% who Strongly Favor repeal.
  • 51% of Americans believe the healthcare law will increase the federal deficit. Only 30% believe it will reduce it.

It appears that Americans are reconnecting with their values. Sometimes it takes hardship to reawaken our spirits. I believe that recent times have taught us to value our freedom and our way of life. So now that we have the momentum to change the direction of our country and return to our core values, what’s our next move?

First, we must remember that the Republican Party has been a part of the problem as much as the Democrats for the past 20 years. Many moderate Republicans are progressives, too.

If we give the Republicans our votes – it should be done with this clear message – you work for us and from now on you will be held accountable for each and every vote you cast. No more back room deals, no more compromising. You campaigned on a platform that earned our votes, in return you need to vote the agenda that got you elected. If you don’t there won’t be another term.

This is the message that needs to be sent. No more politics as usual. There are many new faces on the political scene this year – most are riding the resurgent conservative wave. Hopefully they are who they say they are. Republicans, Independents and Tea Party candidates need to now do what is necessary to put America back on the right track. It’s time.

Restore the Republic, Reject the Agenda of the Progressive Left!

Obama’s Numbers in Freefall

Today’s Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows President Obama’s approval ratings freefalling to an approval index of -20. The poll shows that 46% strongly disapprove of his performance while only 26% strongly approve of it. Additionally only 43% of those polled even somewhat approve of the President’s job performance while indicate they disapprove. This represents a 3 – 4% negative shift from his average or the last 6 months.

In the past 4 weeks the President has also taken a -20 point hit in the polls for his handling of the Gulf oil crisis. 46% of all voters give him a poor rating for his handling of the event. With mainstream voters this slips even further to 61%. Still 60% of voters still support offshore oil drilling and think it should be allowed to continue. This may be because 67% believe the leak could have been prevented with closer government inspection of the wells. It is also worth noting that 64% of Americans claim they are following the story very closely.

58% of voters still favor repeal of the healthcare reform bill. 69% of voters feel the country is now headed the wrong direction.

Obama Approval Index Hits -21

According to Rasmussen Reports, President Obama has matched his lowest Approval Index rating. This is the second time his Approval Index has gone this low. The last time was in late December as the Senate prepared to approve its version of health care reform. It hardly seems a coincidence given this week’s health care summit.

Also a new Rasmussen Reports phone survey finds that 56% of those surveyed oppose the proposed health care reform plans. This includes 45% who strongly oppose the plans while only 23% strongly favor it. The level of opposition has remained strong and consistent since last November.

The president called for a bipartisan summit meeting to get his health care reform plan back on track. The meeting was held this week. In response to the meeting surveys show that 61% of voters said Congress should scrap the current proposals and go back to the drawing board. The president is adamant that he won’t start over and that he will pass something this year. This has resulted in 50% of those surveyed saying the president has done a poor job in handling the health care reform issue.

Other Observations from Rasmussen:

Eighty-three percent (83%) of Americans say the size of the federal budget deficit is due more to the unwillingness of politicians to cut government spending than to the reluctance of taxpayers to pay more in taxes.

Only 11% of American adults think the nation needs to increase its deficit spending to improve the economy. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% disagree and say it would be better to cut the deficit.

Rasmussen By the Numbers:

Mood of the Country

The US is on the Wrong Track – 65%

Generic Congressional Ballot – GOP +9

Trust on the Issues: Democrats vs. Republicans

The Republicans now lead the Democrats by wide margins in trust factor on every major issue the country is facing:

Economy: D = 42% R = 46%

National Security: D = 40% R = 49%

War in Iraq: D = 38% R = 46%

Immigration: D = 36% R = 43%

Social Security: D = 35% R = 45%

Abortion: D = 32% R = 46%

Taxes: D = 34% R = 50%

President Obama – what will it take to get you to listen. The will of the people is clear. They want reduced spending, lower taxes and start over on health care reform. They want more jobs and they believe that the free market is the answer to solving that problem. The priority is jobs not health care.

For the second straight week there was bad news in the weekly job report. In the week ending Feb. 20, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 496,000, an increase of 22,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 474,000. The previous week’s labor department job report showed initial claims for unemployment benefits increased 31,000 to 473,000.

Most of us do not believe the economy is growing stronger just because the bleeding has slowed. We are still losing jobs; more people have become discouraged and quit looking which is the only reason the unemployment rate dropped to 9.7% in January. Officially there are 14,453,421 unemployed but the real number is 24,197,207 with 38,917,749 receiving food stamps. The 2010 year to date figures show another 856,357 foreclosures have occurred as well as 1,406,434 bankruptcies were filed, indicating the problem is far from over.

Conservatives need to keep the heat on. The Republicans are not necessarily the answer as they have proven in the past. Hold everyone accountable! The free market and non governmental job growth coupled with tax cuts and a major spending reduction are the only things that will save our economy.

Obama’s Approval Rating -17 Again!

Today’s Rasmussen Report shows that the President’s Approval Index has returned to pre- State of the Union levels with an index score of -17. The new poll shows that 43% Strongly Disapprove of the President’s job performance as opposed to only 26% that Strongly Approve. The President also tied his lowest overall approval rating of only 44%.

On major problems the Republicans lead Democrats on trust factors:

Economy:   D = 42%   R = 46%

National Security:   D = 40%   R = 49%

War in Iraq:   D = 38%   R = 46%

Immigration:   D = 36%    R = 43%

Education:   D = 36%   R = 40%

Health :  D = 37%   R = 49%

Social Security:   D = 35%   R = 45%

Abortion:   D = 32%   R = 46%

Taxes:    D = 34%   R = 50%

Currently, the Republicans continue to hold 7% advantage in generic ballot and appear to be well positioned to regain seats in the Fall.

While the President appeared to receive a lift after his economy focused State of the Union, Americans are overwhelmingly rejecting the administration’s Keynesian approach to the economy. Keynesian economics is a theory that says, “it’s best to increase deficit spending in tough economic times.” A recent Rasmussen telephone finds that 70 % of Americans disagree, with 59% saying that “Keynes had it backwards” saying that increasing the deficit will further damage the economy. In fact, 56% Americans “believe that cutting the deficit is the way to go”. The rejection of increased deficit spending crosses party lines. Only 21% of Democrats favor continuing to increase the deficit.

The majority of Americans, 83%, say “the size of the federal budget deficit is due more to the unwillingness of politicians to cut government spending than to the reluctance of taxpayers to pay more in taxes”. At this point, most Americans believe that lowering taxes is more important to jump starting the economy than a balanced budget with higher taxes – even if that means not dealing with the deficit immediately.

According to Rasmussen’s research, “only 35% of voters realize that the majority of federal spending goes just to defense, Social Security and Medicare”. “These figures highlight a massive failure of leadership from both Republicans and Democrats among the nation’s political elite,” says Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports. “Given the amount of political chatter about the budget in recent years, it is almost beyond comprehension that neither party has seen fit to highlight the basics so that the American people can make reasoned choices on the fundamental issues before them.”

So the question is – President Obama are you listening? The will of the people is clear. They want reduced spending and lower taxes. They want more jobs and they believe that the free market is the answer to solving that problem. The priority is jobs not health care.

Don’t tell us that the economy is growing stronger because we are bleeding slower. We are still losing jobs; more people have become discouraged and quit looking which is the only reason the unemployment rate dropped to 9.7% in January. Officially there are 14,728,371 unemployed but the real number is 24,968,317 with 38,755,453 receiving food stamps.

The Obama Express jumps the track!

It’s been a very bad week for the Obama Administration with losses on every front. The loss in the Massachusetts Senate race has left healthcare reform gasping for breath. This loss also removed the filibuster proof Senate as a White House tool. Finally, the release of the latest jobs report showed that after showing job gains in 36 states in November the trend reversed with 43 states losing a total of 85,000 jobs in December.  All of this has sent the President’s numbers into a freefall.

New data from Rasmussen Reports indicates the honeymoon is over. The President’s Approval Index has slipped to -19 reflecting a real slip in his base support.

According to a new survey by Rasmussen Reports, Democrats who Strongly Approve has fallen from 55% to 48% over the past four days. Fifty one percent (51%) of unaffiliated voters, a key to his election, now Strongly Disapprove this is up from 43% just four days ago as well.

According to Rasmussen sixty-one percent (61%) of voters say Congress needs to refocus on the economy and quit focusing on healthcare reform, with 58% saying they are against the current plan anyway. This figure includes 50% who are Strongly Opposed to the proposed plans.

Here are the key numbers used to calculate the Approval Index:

Obama Approval Index -19

Here are some other key areas where the numbers indicate that the President’s problems are growing as they indicate further erosion in his policies:

Is the tide turning? Maybe but the game is still in the first quarter. We must keep turning up the heat and demanding the transparency and accountability we were promised.

The numbers are clear, our message is clear… So will the President listen to his citizens? America, this is the litmus test for this president. If Obama, the administration and the “progressive left” continue to ram their health care bill down our throats, after we have been as clear as we have; we must move fast and take action. The power grab is over! The economy and jobs must be the top priority. These must be created in the private sector not through some fake government stimulus. We need tax cuts for businesses and individuals as well as freedom from government interference in the form of unnecessary regulations or over reaching legislation. It is time for a free market recovery.

Most important – the events in Massachusetts was not a Republican victory, it was an American victory. Every elected official needs to prove what side they are on. We need leaders with conservative American values. Party affiliations should no longer be the gauge of values, we must judge our leaders on the content of their character and their values.

Wake up America! Restore the Republic, Reject the agenda of the Socialist Left!

Obama’s approval sinks to record low

Obama’s approval sinks to record low

According to today’s the Rasmussen Report daily Presidential Tracking Poll indicates 42% Strongly Disapprove of the way Barack Obama is performing as President. Only 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of his performance resulting in a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19, the lowest of his presidency. This is the second straight day that his approval rating has fallen to a new low.

The report also says, “The 23% who Strongly Approve matches the lowest level of enthusiasm yet recorded. Just 41% of Democrats Strongly Approve while 69% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 21% Strongly Approve and 49% Strongly Disapprove. ….Among those who consider the economy to be the most important issue, just 26% Strongly Approve of the President’s performance while 39% Strongly Disapprove. Among those who consider fiscal policy issues the most important, just 1% Strongly Approve and 81% Strongly Disapprove”.

Part of the problem clearly stems from what appears to be a total lack of concern for what voters want, in other words an unwillingness listen to the people. Here are some examples:

Healthcare Reform: A recent Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey indicates that 51% of those surveyed oppose the plan. 40% Strongly Oppose the plan, while just 23% Strongly favor it, a negative index of -17. This has resulted in the lowest level of support for the President’s plan to date at just 41%.

“This suggests that public opinion about the health care plan is hardening,” says Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports. “Despite the fact that most American believe our health care system needs major changes, most are opposed to what Congress is currently doing about it.”

Yet, Congress and the President continue to attempt to ram health care legislation through despite clear and consistent public opposition. While 72% of Democrats favor the plan, while 83% of Republicans and 62% of independents oppose it.

Also 66% of Americans believe that an increase free market in competition for healthcare will provide a better outcome than government regulation. Additionally, 57% believe the cost of healthcare will increase under a government plan and 54% believe the quality will go down.

Other Issues: Americans are split 43% to 43% on the issue of global warming. However, only 22% of Americans consider the UN/IPCC to be a reliable source of information on global warming. 49% disagree, saying the UN is unreliable on the topic and even question their motivations. A large number 29%, remain unsure.

In the meantime, at the UN summit in Copenhagen, Denmark next week the administration plans to advance a proposed international treaty on global warming. Obama has publicly committed the United States to a 17 % decrease in emissions by 2020. If Congress approves of this, critics say such a cut would seriously damage the U.S. economy.

While 47% of those surveyed believe that global warming is mostly the result of cyclical weather cycles, not human activity. Meanwhile the administration, Vice President Al Gore and other climate change activists believe humans are responsible.

U.S. voters (44%) see a conflict between fixing the economy and environmental protection initiatives, 31% disagree. Americans strongly believe congress and the administration must focus on the economy and job creation. 71% say the majority of Congress’ time should be spent on stimulating the economy to create jobs. This is being driven by 29% of companies reporting that their employers are continuing to lay people off.

All of this has led to recent surveys indicating that 71% of Americans are angry at the way the federal government is performing as a whole.

Americans are clearly starting to wake up, now the question is what are they going to do about it.

Restore America, Reject the Agenda of the Socialist Left!

Obama Under Fire… Matthews & Rasmussen

The President’s numbers are tanking again. He is making such a mess of things that he has lost ground in almost every major area. Things are so bad that even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews a normally staunch supporter of President Obama recently referred to him as “Carteresque”.

Here is a transcript from the that show:

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Welcome back. The word these days is optics, visuals, signals. In the Carter presidency, the optics were not exactly robust, and Ronald Reagan rode that to a big victory in 1980. Is the Obama White House sending some Carteresque signals these days? Some see that in the deep bow to the Emperor of Japan, an unforced error say critics. Then there was, there was what happened in China: Obama got nothing in the way of concessions over there in spite of playing the polite visitor. And his effort to speak directly to the Chinese was jammed by the government. Third, that decision to try the terrorists up in that federal court in New York City. Again, nothing that had to be done, and critics say it shows that Obama, his team doesn’t understand this is a war we’re in. David, that’s the question. These optics are everything in a president. Carter used to carry that garment bag over his shoulder. This president is he making mistakes like in China like in Japan?

DAVID IGNATIUS, WASHINGTON POST : I think he is coming across as stiff. He is talking too much sometimes and communicating too little. So the opposite of what we saw during the campaign. Although the decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York apparently was Eric Holder’s, it strikes me that it really is a mistake. I mean, there are too many bad things that could happen. There is no reason to have to have done this. And, you know, it’s a political feel for decision-making. That wonderful thing you just did about President Johnson’s feel for the moment. That’s what I think is missing now with this group in the White House. I don’t know where it’s gone. They certainly had it during the campaign. Maybe they’ll get it back. But it’s missing now.

MATTHEWS: It’s the political touch. You were in China. You just got back. Tell me about that. The president tried to speak to the Chinese people and apparently it was jammed. Tell me about that.

ANNE KORNBLUT, WASHINGTON POST: This was the big moment of the whole trip to Asia in fact, eight days in Asia he was going to speak to Chinese students in Shanghai unfiltered at least in his answers, and in fact the Chinese government, you know, they allowed the event to take place, but it was only shown locally on Shanghai television. People didn’t see it. The one piece of news he made in it saying that the internet should be free and people should have access dribbled out to the Chinese public and then started being deleted from all the Chinese websites. So, then, the following day he held a quote unquote press conference with the Chinese President Hu Jintao in which there were no questions and they read statements. Now, this is of course, this is the Chinese, it’s their home turf. They were allowed to do what they wanted to. That was the White House’s argument. And the White House haggled with them to get it more open.

MATTHEWS: The White House got jammed here.

The once untouchable president is beginning to struggle with the public’s growing discontent with his policies and job performance. This administration has demonstrated an ongoing attitude of superiority and an apparent disregard for the wishes of the people by continuing to push unpopular programs and spending down our throats.

If you need proof look no further than the numbers below from the most recent Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Also note that Republicans are currently beating the Democrats in every policy category and that leaders on both sides of the aisle in Congress have major problems with their “Unfavorable” ratings. For the record, the Republicans have done nothing to deserve this turnaround. The country is mostly conservative and independent – this is more a vote against the Democrts than for the Republicans.
