Government Employees are Tax Delinquents!

The IRS says that unpaid taxes by federal employees has reached about $3.04 billion.

According to Internal Revenue Service data the U.S. Postal Service has more employees who are delinquent on their taxes any other federal agency. Their total is $297.93 million which is almost 10% of the total.

The Treasury which includes the IRS (and Tim Geithner) owes $6.99 million. At the IRS employees can be fired for failing to pay taxes. (I sense an opportunity.)

And then there is the Congress and the Executive Branch: $2.47 million for the U.S. Senate; $5.81 million for the House of Representatives; and about $813,000 for the Executive Office of the President.

Ironic isn’t it? This should be embarrassing since the federal government has record deficits and wants to raise the debt limit to $12 trillion so that it can continue spending at record levels next year. You would think that they would at least want to avoid this type of press since all government employees re paid with tax revenue. They do not create wealth – their jobs consume wealth.

According to Rasmussen Reports, here is the prevailing public opinion on ACORN: 

Have a favorable view of ACORN = 15%

Have an unfavorable view of ACORN = 67%

No Opinion = 18%

 By a margin of 51% to 17% or 3 to 1, American voters favor cutting ACORN off from receiving Federal Funds

By a margin of 64% to 10% or 6 to 1, American voters agree with the Census Bureau’s decision to sever ties with ACORN 

Reasons for investigating ACORN:

57% say they are due to illegal activity, 20% say they are politically motivated.  

Many believe that ACORN should be investigated and possibly prosecuted under RICO laws. When will a Special Prosecutor be assigned to lead an investigation? When will AG Eric Holder weigh in on this? What does the President think should be done? It’s time for transparency and accountability, will there be any?

NY Dem uses Constitution to defend ACORN…What?

Bill to Defund ACORN called “Unconstitutional” by Chair of Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, denounced a Republican Amendment adopted by the House of Representatives to deny all federal funds to ACORN as blatantly unconstitutional and a threat to unpopular organizations everywhere. The Republican initiative, entitled the Defund ACORN Act, singles out a specific organization by name for exclusion from participating in any federal program, in direct violation of the Constitution’s prohibition against Bills of Attainder.

Mr. Nadler’s remarks are below:

“Thank you, Mr. Speaker. A little while ago, the House passed an amendment to the bill that we were considering that says no contract or federal funds may ever go to ACORN, a named organization, or to any individual or organization affiliated with ACORN. Unfortunately, this was done in the spirit of the moment and nobody had the opportunity to point out that this is a flat violation of the Constitution, constituting a Bill of Attainder. The Constitution says that Congress shall never pass a Bill of Attainder. Bills of Attainder, no matter what their form, apply either to a named individual or to easily ascertainable members of a group, to inflict punishment. That’s exactly what this amendment does.

“It may be that ACORN is guilty of various infractions, and, if so, it ought to be vetted, or maybe sanctioned, by the appropriate administrative agency or by the judiciary. Congress must not be in the business of punishing individual organizations or people.” 

While I agree that the Congress should not be in the business of punishing organizations or people without trials, withholding taxpayer funds from an organization that has ethical issues on the scale that ACORN does seems like prudent business since these funds would be for services rendered. So I have a few questions for the Congressman. 

1. If this falls under the premise of Bill of Attainder which specifically refers ex post facto law, how is this any less Constitutional than passing a bill after the fact to place a huge penalty on the AIG bonuses?
2. Do you defend the Constitution with this vigor all the time?
3. How much ACORN support did you receive in your last Congressional race? 

Ironic, isn’t it the Congress finally takes a stand against corruption and a politician tries to invoke “constitutional law” as the defense, the same Constitution that these same politicians ignore on a daily basis.

ACORN Suspends new intakes!    ACORN, calling the actions of some of its employees “indefensible,” has suspended advising new clients as part of its service programs and is setting up an independent review to see what happened. ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement that she was “ordering a halt to any new intakes into ACORN’s service programs until completion of an independent review.”

White House comments on scandal – From: Politico

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs alluded to video, taken by the conservative site BigGovernment.com, showing ACORN employees giving advice to individuals posing as sex traffickers.

“Obviously, the conduct that you see on those tapes is completely unacceptable. I think everyone would agree to that,” Gibbs said. “The administration takes accountability extremely seriously.”

ACORN: streaming video or a stream of videos… the truth comes out!

After news broke late last week that undercover videos were surfacing on Breitbart’s Big Government website that showed ACORN for what it really is, the rhetoric that this was just a right wing smear campaign quickly followed. Well, now there are four cities worth of videos  available on line, all of which show the same thing. In each ACORN employees are in the compromised position of working to help “a pimp and a hooker” defraud the government in an attempt to gain a home loan and avoid taxes for the purposes of setting up a brothel. Even worse they do not bat an eye when the undercover pair, “mention” that as part of their operation they will be bringing a dozen under age girls in from El Salvador to “work” for them. 

This scam is played out four times in Baltimore, MD; Washington D.C.; Brooklyn, NY; and most recently San Bernadino, CA. I have previously posted the Baltimore and DC videos. Below you will find the NY and CA videos. And rumor has it there are more to come… So why are they releasing these tapes one at a time? The Breitbart team was worried that if they released them all at once the mainstream media would bury this story but if they release them over time the story wouldn’t go away as easily. 

There is good news here. Thanks to the efforts of James O’Keefe, Hannah Giles and the Breitbart team the truth about ACORN and its’ corruption have been exposed. So far this has resulted in the following: 

The firing of ACORN employees involved.

The US Census Bureau terminated its’ relationship with ACORN.

The US Senate voting 83 – 7 to cut off funding to ACORN Housing

The revelation ACORN, Inc.; the parent organization of all things ACORN; forfeited its corporate charter in Maryland in 2006. ACORN Housing forfeited its corporate charter in 2008. Any ACORN office in the state of Maryland is potentially operating illegally. 

Senator Boehner, Senator Cantor and Senator Camp call for IRS to sever all ties with ACORN. Currently, ACORN receives some government funding to assist low income families with income tax preparation.

When you add these actions to the fourteen investigations of ACORN’s involvement in voter fraud and the State of Louisiana’s investigation into ACORN’s operations in their state; the truth about the depth of corruption in this organization may finally come to light.

Attack on America -ACLU John Adams Project

Once again the Progressive left is undermining America and our safety. Rather than accept that the government would not release the names of CIA operatives involved with use of enhanced interrogation tactics for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay, they have begun their own efforts to out the agents. These clowns have hired private investigators to sneak around and take pictures of CIA agents who may have interrogated captured al-Qaida suspects.  They then show the pictures to terror suspects and their lawyers.

As Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly describes it, “This insidious outfit believes the CIA tortured casually and the U.S.A. is a human rights violator.”

Speaking in defense of this lunacy is John Adams Project attorney, Nina Ginsberg, who said, “”CIA agents put a lot of people in danger, they put this country in danger, they put American Soldiers in danger.”

The President and the Justice Department needs to put a stop to this immediately. Our agents were acting on orders and in the best interest of our country. If we won’t defend them now – who will be willing to defend us in the future. By all accounts the intelligence yielded through these techniques potentially saved thousands of civilian lives.

It is unbelievable that this can happen in America! It was called the War on Terror for a reason, if it takes these techniques to defend our homeland and innocent civilians from terrorist attacks then so be it. The act of outing a CIA agent earned Scooter Libby a stint in jail – so what should the penalty be for those behind the John Adams Project?

This is an outrage! It is time for the President to defend those who defend us, to do anything less is unacceptable.

ACORN: A source of nuts for Socialist Squirrels

Here is a collection of updates on the crazy world of ACORN. As these stories continue to unravel it is very obvious that this organization has no business being involved with anything involving government funds. The last story in the series is ACORN’s weak attempt at blame deflection. If they were a legitimate organization with a few bad apples they would circle the wagons and do an internal house cleaning to repair their reputation. However, the charges of wrong doing keep popping up and they continue to play the victim card. At least the Census Bureau has finally woke up.

After Census Severs Ties, ACORN May Face Scrutiny of Housing Grants

ACORN Housing Corporation received $1.6 million in federal money to provide housing services to low-income communities in this fiscal year

The Census Bureau notified ACORN on Friday in a letter that it is severing all ties with the group for all work having to do with the 2010 census.

“Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts,” read a letter from Census Director Robert M. Groves to the president of ACORN.

“Unfortunately, we no longer have confidence that our national partnership agreement is being effectively managed through your many local offices. For the reasons stated, we therefore have decided to terminate the partnership,” the letter said.

Conservatives have cheered the Census Bureau’s decision to sever ties with ACORN because it had lost confidence in the group, but the hidden-camera videos that prompted ACORN to fire four workers this week could raise more questions about the federal funding ACORN receives for housing outreach.

ACORN Housing Corporation received $1.6 million to provide housing services to low-income communities in this fiscal year, ending Sept. 30, according to USASpending.gov, a federal government Web site for tracking government grants.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development Grants has given $8.2 million to ACORN in the years between 2003 and 2006, as well as $1.6million to ACORN affiliates.

HUD could not be reached for comment.

Atlantic Avenue Apartments was developed on vacant land, with a portion formerly owned by the City of New York and a portion owned by the developers. Dunn Development Corp. and New York ACORN Housing Company, Inc. have joined to co-sponsor the project, and ACORN will also serve as the property manager.

ACORN Voter Registration Fraud in Miami

Eleven people hired to register potential voters in Miami-Dade County before last year’s presidential election were being sought Wednesday for falsifying hundreds of voter registration cards.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for each of the 11 suspects, all of whom worked for the local chapter of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, (ACORN).

By early Wednesday morning, six were in custody, authorities said.

ACORN came under fire during last year’s presidential campaign when Republicans and other conservative groups accused the national organization of committing fraud in its aggressive voter registration efforts in various cities and counties nationwide, including Florida.

But ACORN officials said they had alerted authorities about the alleged illegal activity among some canvassers in Miami-Dade after finding “numerous discrepancies” on voter cards collected from the Homestead area.

The arrests are “further evidence we’ve been policing our own folks and report people attempting to commit voter registration fraud,” said ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring. “This was really some individuals who were trying to defraud their employer.”

Statement from Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer, ACORN Regarding Recent News Reports

The relentless attacks on ACORN’s members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented. An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a “news” agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they’ve had these tapes for months. 

We are their Willy Horton for 2009. We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers. If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America. This recent scam, which was attempted in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia to name a few places, had failed for months before the results we’ve all recently seen. I am appalled and angry; I cannot and I will not defend the actions of the workers depicted in the video, who have since been terminated. But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist “filmmaker” O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was – our lawyers believe a felony – and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators. 

We will not be intimidated by this international conglomerate, which has made as its mission the destruction of our organization. ACORN members are committed to the empowerment of their communities – Black, Latino, poor, and working class – at the deepest level. We are an organization committed to halting the foreclosure crisis and keeping people in their homes. We are an organization committed to ensuring quality, affordable health care for every American. We are an organization that will not be stopped in our commitment to our members and our communities which has included:

Helping hundreds of thousands of African-American and Latino voters register to vote and get to the polls in recent years;

Preparing, since 2004, approximately 150,000 free tax returns totaling $190 million in refunds and increased earned income tax credit participation;

Providing effective foreclosure prevention advocacy saving thousands of American families from losing their homes to foreclosure.

People – This is your tax dollars at work! ACORN is who is going to run the 2010  census. ACORN is charged with voter fraud. ACORN is scheduled to receive 8 BILLION of your tax dollars and that dors noy include payment for their census work!  What are you going to do about it?

Van Jones Resigns

At midnight Saturday, Van Jones stepped down as the Green Jobs Czar as pressure mounted on the administration to address an endless stream of quotes and videos surfaced showing how radical Mr. Jones and his associations have been. The Progressives and Jones will call this a smear campaign but the comments and videos speak for themselves. They show  a man committed to his ideals. Unfortunately for Jones these ideals are not what America wants or believes. Rather than calling this a smear campaign, to use the words of the president himself; maybe this was a teachable moment. The lesson – the citizens can also be committed to their principles and will push back when our public servants are not listening.
