Obama, Muslims and the Mosque

A recent poll conducted by  Pew Research Center and its affiliate Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that 18% of Americans now believe that the president is a Muslim, up 7% from last year. The flack has gotten so bad that The White House Bill Burton even felt the need to issue a statement saying, “(Americans) are not reading a lot of news about what religion the president is. The president is obviously a Christian. He prays everyday.”

While the mainstream media continues to defend the president, concern among the average American grows – mostly driven by the president’s own behavior.

For two years in a row President Obama has been a no show on the National Day of Prayer, but has yet to miss hosting a Ramadan festival at the White House since becoming president.

The list of overtures that Obama has made to the Muslim world has caused many to wonder why he feels the need to try so hard to listen to Muslims and win them over while virtually ignoring the voice of Americans who do not agree with his policies.

While still a candidate for president, Obama was quoted as saying: “I think that the [political] right might worry a bit more about the dangers of sectarianism. Whatever we once were, we’re no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”

Remember that the President’s father was a Muslim and Obama grew up in Indonesia which has one of the world’s largest Muslim populations. His administration has pushed hard to mend relations with Muslims. I do not know anyone who thinks that finding a way to peacefully co-exist with the Muslim world is a bad thing – but what price are we willing to pay for their cooperation. Are we willing to continue to allow the President’s pandering to them cause division within our own nation?

Here are a few more examples of Obama’s efforts and overtures to the Muslim world:

On Ramadan: “I know this to be a festive time,” he had said. “A time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But I also know that Ramadan is a time of intense devotion and reflection, a time when Muslims fast during the day and perform tarawih prayers at night, reciting and listening to the entire Koran over the course of the month. These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.” For the past 10 years there has been very little evidence of Islam advancing any of these values or promoting peace!

Summer of Service Program: Obama has touted the “many Islamic organizations that have joined other faith-based groups at the forefront of his “Summer of Service” program to encourage Americans to volunteer in their communities.” Why go out of your way to specifically mention Muslim participation?

First TV Interview as President: Obama gave the first TV interview of his presidency to Al Arabiya, saying, “My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy.”

The Cairo Speech (a couple of excerpts): “So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed.  That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t.  And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear. …  Now, much has been made of the fact that an African American with the name Barack Hussein Obama could be elected President.  But my personal story is not so unique.  The dream of opportunity for all people has not come true for everyone in America, but its promise exists for all who come to our shores — and that includes nearly 7 million American Muslims in our country today who, by the way, enjoy incomes and educational levels that are higher than the American average.” Why does there always seem to be a shot at America or Americans in his comments?

The Christmas Decorations Controversy: Last December, word leaked out that the Obamas were planning a “non-religious Christmas”, whatever that is. According to Social Secretary Desiree Rogers the Obamas had decided not to put the White House Nativity scene on display which would have ended a longtime East Room tradition. All of this was reported in the NY Times, Fashion & Style section. In the article the White House confirmed to the Times that there had been discussions about the need to make Christmas more inclusive. In the end the Obamas caved to tradition but it has to make you wonder why a Christian family would consider such a move in the first place. Is it just political correctness gone awry or is there more to this?

And now the President’s latest fiasco – The Ground Zero Mosque Controversy:

“Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities — particularly New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. And the pain and the experience of suffering by those who lost loved ones is just unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. And ground zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.” – Barack Obama

In a series of recent comments, the President said that Muslims have the right to build a mosque near New York’s ground zero and that he supported the developers’ right to build there as well. Obama also stated that Muslims have the same right to freedom of religion as anyone else. All of which is true but does this make such a move the right thing to do? This is an administration that likes to harp on doing what’s right – so?

The mosque would be part of a $100 million Islamic community center two blocks from the site of the World Trade Center which was attacked and destroyed by Muslim terrorists on Sept.11, 2001. Almost 3000 people were killed in that attack.

Many Americans now feel betrayed by Obama’s comments. While it is true that a core American value is freedom of religion, there is also the recognition of the right to establish community standards.

As Democrat, Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C. describes it, “We have what we call in this country ‘community standards,’ and community standards ought to be left up to the community. The decision on permitting for any building, be it a mosque or a church, or whatever may be a place of worship, or be it a grocery store or a liquor store, those things are left up to community standards…”

In this case the standard might be simply based on common decency and respect.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y weighed in saying, “President Obama is wrong. It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero.”

Democrats disagreed also, Senate candidate Jeff Greene (D) FL said, “President Obama has this all wrong and I strongly oppose his support for building a mosque near ground zero especially since Islamic terrorists have bragged and celebrated destroying the Twin Towers and killing nearly 3,000 Americans. Freedom of religion might provide the right to build the mosque in the shadow of ground zero, but common sense and respect for those who lost their lives and loved ones gives sensible reason to build the mosque someplace else.”

Many believe that building a mosque near ground zero is a deliberately provocative act and extremely insensitive. Others are just disappointed in the president’s position. “Barack Obama has abandoned America at the place where America’s heart was broken nine years ago, and where her true values were on display for all to see,” said Debra Burlingame, who lost her brother that day. He was a pilot of one of the hijacked jets.

Even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office issued a statement saying, “The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Senator Reid respects that, but thinks that the mosque should be built some place else.”

As for the Muslims who want to build this mosque claiming it will be a place that will foster understanding and cooperation between the Muslim community and their neighbors – here is an idea toward that goal; show a little sensitivity… build somewhere else!

I’ll stop here even though I could go on with questions about the theory that this is a “victory mosque” or question the credibility and motives of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind the effort to build this mosque. However, none of that is the real story here – the real story or better yet question is – what does Barack Obama really stand for and what is his plan for America? One could argue that he has done more damage to the long term health of our country in less than two years than any president in history. (record deficit spending, healthcare reform, financial regulations and government takeovers of banks and companies, etc.)

Certainly none of this proves that the President is a Muslim or that it even matters. However in these few examples (and there are many more) one can not help but question why the President always seems to be on the side of everyone but Americans and that does matter. Whether we are talking about illegal immigration, America’s role in the world, the Constitution or capitalism – the President seems to always be opposed to core American values, beliefs and a constant critic of all that we stand for. Remember he wants to fundamentally transform America and so far he is succeeding.

It is time to stop this madness. Let’s not get distracted by this smoke screen. The President lobbed out these comments and went on vacation, secure in the knowledge that we will waste our time debating this instead of focusing on the systematic destruction of our country and our economy. I don’t know if the President is a Muslim, but I am damn sure he is a socialist!

Wake up, America! Restore the Republic, Reject Socialism!

The Obama Administration and the Big Lie

As the future of America as we know it hangs in the balance the Obama administration and for that matter, politicians on both sides of the aisle are demonstrating their adherence to and mastery of the “Big Lie” propaganda strategy. The strategy used throughout history by great liars was best explained by Hitler in his 1925 book, Mein Kampf.

“All this was inspired by the principle – which is quite true in itself – that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, 1925 (James Murphy translation, page 134)

According to Edward Bernays, known within the public relations world as  “the father of spin”, “If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing about it? The recent practice of proganda has proved that it is possible, at least up to a certain point and within certain limits.”

Bernays referred to his scientific technique of opinion-molding as the “engineering of consent”.  Sounds a lot like Obama’s public opinion puppetmaster, David Axelrod who has built a career on creating opinion shifts through clever tactics. This is the reason you can no longer take the news at face value. You do not know if you are being given the truth or “the spin” designed to keep you moving down the path they want you on.

And who can forget the administration’s little foray into art propoganda by way of the National Endowment for the Arts. Create a few policy themed pieces of art to support the administration’s agenda and receive a little grant money in the process. The manipulation of public opinion is key to the policy agenda of all politicians but it is one thing to uses facts or statistics – it is quite another to use lies. Both sides do it but it doesn’t make it right – it makes it corrupt.  Make no mistake corruption is destroying our country!

Check out this Disney video which uses Chicken Little to explain the “Big Lie” theory:

So as various debates rage on the administration continues to weigh in them making supporting statements that are factually inaccurate and completely untrue to push forward their agenda. In the case of the Arizona immigration law for example, the administration opposes the law which is modeled after the current federal statute, a statute that they refuse to enforce. What makes this crazier is the fact that the basis of their objection is that some how WE are violating the rights of people who broke the law to gain admittance to our country.

Here are examples of the “Big Lie” in action:

Barack Obama: “You can imagine, if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona …” the president said Tuesday at a campaign-style appearance in Iowa, “suddenly, if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed.”

Barack Obama: “What I think is a mistake is when we start having local law enforcement officials empowered to stop people on suspicion that they may be undocumented workers.”

False & False: The law specifically requires that the ability to question about immigration status be tied to a lawful stop, detention or arrest. Since looking Hispanic is not a crime the President’s example is ridiculous. The President is a lawyer so surely he knows better.

During the healthcare reform debate, Obama and the left made outrageous claims such as:

  • There are 40 million uninsured Americans
  • Doctors are performing unnecessary operations

And of course, you remember when this happened right?

“I’m going to have all the negotiations around a big table. We’ll have doctors and nurses and hospital administrators. Insurance companies, drug companies — they’ll get a seat at the table, they just won’t be able to buy every chair. But what we will do is, we’ll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies. And so, that approach, I think is what is going to allow people to stay involved in this process.” – Barack Obama

  • No one will be required to buy coverage, no new taxes on employer benefits, no need to fear rationing, the “public option” won’t be a Trojan horse for single payer government plan – Read the law and compare that to candidate Obama’s campaign rhetoric along with many tapes/videos of his true goals. It was all a lie.

During the campaign candidate Obama made many promises regarding reducing or not increasing income tax on the lower and middle class. However with his spending and program initiatives this is a promise that was never true. I guess if you create a dozen new taxes but don’t call them “income tax”, the fact that they drive your cost of living up doesn’t count. Or maybe it is just a lie!

Now we have the BP oil crisis in the Gulf. Obama says it is all he thinks about. He needs to know “who’s ass to kick” and who to hold responsible. When he gets negative press coverage for his handling of the issue, he takes the opportunity to make a speech or have photo op – but what is he really doing? A few months in and there is no end in sight… So what is he doing? Golfing, concerts and baseball games! OK, I am being a little sarcastic everyone needs some downtime so stop being so disingenuous – it’s not all you think about. Show some leadership – do something. How can this be all he thinks about? It’s not, so is this just another lie?

We currently have no shortage of issues, each seemingly a crisis in its own right. They run the gamut from unemployment and illegal immigration to unmanageable national debt and foreign relations. You remember about a crisis, right? Early on Rahm Emanuel told us about the opportunities of a crisis:

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” – Rahm Emanuel

And then there is Treasury Secretary and tax cheat Timothy Geithner, who says:

“Most consequential choices involve shades of gray, and some fog is often useful in getting things done.”

Fog and shades of gray sounds a lot like cover-ups, half truths and lies. Again this represents a strategy to manipulate. It has gotten so bad that the “Big Truth” syndrome is taking over. The ugly truth is becoming so obvious that now people don’t want to believe it because it would force them to confront the issues.

There is a never ending attempt at media manipulation with this administration. It is designed to keep you off balance while they keep pressing forward with the real agenda. Crisis after contrived crisis all designed to distract and create opportunities to transform not reform America.

The real question should be “transform America” into what? If you open your eyes the big (and very ugly) truth is staring us in the face. Social justice, redistribution of wealth, centralized planning, a greatly expanded national government, a loss of individual freedom and a reduced standard of living wait for us at the end of this journey to socialism.

Wake up America! Is this the destination that you signed up for? Are you ready to trade our national sovereignty, our values and our individual freedoms for the “security” of a nanny state? I believe the majority of Americans would say no if faced with this choice. Yet many fail to recognize that we are facing this choice right now! If you are a regular reader of this blog then you already understand the choices in front of us. The question now is – how do we wake up our fellow citizens before it is too late?

Restore the Republic, Reject the “Big Lie”!

“He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.” – Thomas Jefferson

“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground” – Thomas Jefferson

“Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness” – George Washington

Obama’s Numbers in Freefall

Today’s Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows President Obama’s approval ratings freefalling to an approval index of -20. The poll shows that 46% strongly disapprove of his performance while only 26% strongly approve of it. Additionally only 43% of those polled even somewhat approve of the President’s job performance while indicate they disapprove. This represents a 3 – 4% negative shift from his average or the last 6 months.

In the past 4 weeks the President has also taken a -20 point hit in the polls for his handling of the Gulf oil crisis. 46% of all voters give him a poor rating for his handling of the event. With mainstream voters this slips even further to 61%. Still 60% of voters still support offshore oil drilling and think it should be allowed to continue. This may be because 67% believe the leak could have been prevented with closer government inspection of the wells. It is also worth noting that 64% of Americans claim they are following the story very closely.

58% of voters still favor repeal of the healthcare reform bill. 69% of voters feel the country is now headed the wrong direction.

Kagan, Socialism & Free Speech

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, wrote in her Princeton senior thesis, titled, “To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900-1933”, “In our own times, a coherent socialist movement is nowhere to be found in the United States. Americans are more likely to speak of a golden past than of a golden future, of capitalism’s glories than of socialism’s greatness. Conformity overrides dissent; the desire to conserve has overwhelmed the urge to alter. Such a state of affairs cries out for explanation. Why, in a society by no means perfect, has a radical party never attained the status of a major political force? Why, in particular, did the socialist movement never become an alternative to the nation’s established parties?”

“Through its own internal feuding, then, the SP exhausted itself forever and further reduced labor radicalism in New York to the position of marginality and insignificance from which it has never recovered. The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism’s decline, still wish to change America. Radicals have often succumbed to the devastating bane of sectarianism; it is easier, after all, to fight one’s fellows than it is to battle an entrenched and powerful foe. Yet if the history of Local New York shows anything, it is that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope.”

Now it goes without saying that our Constitution was not designed with socialism in mind as the government of choice for America. Some will argue that the young Kagan was simply involved in an academic discussion and that it is not necessarily an accurate reflection of her personal politics. If that’s true, why was this in a recent filing signed by Kagan in her current role as Solicitor General…

“Whether a given category of speech enjoys First Amendment protection depends upon a categorical balancing of the value of the speech against its societal costs.”

Read that again – it appears to suggest that free speech is subject to its’ value. The value of speech itself is a subjective matter depending on who is listening. More from Kagan…

In 1993, Kagan wrote an article for the University of Chicago Law Review , in which she said , “I take it as a given that we live in a society marred by racial and gender inequality, that certain forms of speech perpetuate and promote this inequality, and that the uncoerced disappearance  of such speech would be cause for great elation.”

As recently as September, Kagan argued that Congress has the constitutional right to forbid companies from engaging in political speech such as publishing pamphlets that advocate the election or defeat of a candidate for federal office.

The court ruled 5-4 against Kagan (Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission) and her contention the government could limit political speech by corporations. In his opinion, Chief Justice Roberts wrote, “The government urges us in this case to uphold a direct prohibition on political speech. It asks us to embrace a theory of the First Amendment that would allow censorship not only of television and radio broadcasts, but of pamphlets, posters, the Internet, and virtually any other medium that corporations and unions might find useful in expressing their views on matters of public concern. Its theory, if accepted, would empower the government to prohibit newspapers from running editorials or opinion pieces supporting or opposing candidates for office, so long as the newspapers were owned by corporations — as the major ones are. First Amendment rights could be confined to individuals, subverting the vibrant public discourse that is at the foundation of our democracy.”

Justice Kennedy, in the majority opinion added that Kagan was defending a law that represents an attempt to use “censorship to control thought”, saying “This is unlawful. The First Amendment confirms the freedom to think for ourselves.”

So I ask you with all the talk of “net neutrality”, new FCC regulations to create diversity, newspaper bailouts and the regulatory tricks the administration is fond of – can we really afford a Supreme Court Justice who wants to manipulate the Constitution?

Kagan’s views on free speech are frightening. The idea that free speech become subject to government regulation is unconscionable and un-American. This violates the fundamental premise of the First Amendment, that all speech should be protected.

The thought of creating an unholy alliance between Ms. Kagan and the always frightening Regulatory Czar, Cass Sunstein should be enough to rally every conservative, republican and American in Congress to oppose her confirmation. Remember, Sunstein in a white paper of his own called “Conspiracy Theories” said the government should have the right to censor political views that it felt were inappropriate, damaging or misleading.

Quoting Sunstein on page 20 of his paper, “We could imagine circumstances in which a conspiracy theory became so pervasive, and so dangerous, that censorship would be thinkable.” His solutions include: A government ban on conspiracy theories and considering some type of government penalties such as a tax or fine on individuals who disseminate such theories.

The issues that must be raised at these confirmation hearings center on – who is Elena Kagan and what are her beliefs/ideals? How will they affect her rulings? Does she believe in the Constitution and will she support it? Is she a person who you want defending your rights and the Constitution? Or will she just be another tool in the box of those trying to “fundamentally transform America”?

So America, it is time to ask, how much control should the government have? This is not what the founding fathers had in mind. The government we see evolving before us is not part of any of the blue prints they left us! Our way of life, our freedom, our liberties and our sovereignty are at risk! It is time to stand up and fight back!

Wake up America! Restore the Republic, Reject the Agenda of the Progressive Left!

You say you want a revolution…

Is this what we have come to? This is America. Legal immigrants are welcome here. This is not about legal immigration – it is about people who are breaking the law and then demanding rights. It is time to stop the madness and enforce our laws. American citizens who opposed the Healthcare Reform bill endured media scrutiny and harsh criticism for exercising their right to free speech. However, now the media is cheerleading the bad behavior of both the left and illegal immigrants because they agreewith them. This must stop now. Enforce the federal immigration laws and secure the border. This type of behavior is offensive to law abiding, tax paying citizens.

The Double Standard – Liberals vs. The Tea Party

Recently, the mainstream media has ratcheted up their attacks on the Tea Party movement. There have been attempts to link it to every thing from militias to white supremacists. The truth, however is that for the most part the Tea Party is made up of married, educated middle class people that have a strongly rooted conservative political ideology.

The irony is; for a large part of the Bush presidency the far left liberals were equally vocal about all of George W.’s policies with which they disagreed – the difference they were afford media support as opposed to media outrage. O.K., so we all know the media leans left – this is not news. The problem in the case of the Tea Party they have crossed a new line. It is no longer a simple case of bias rather it has taken on a nasty tone full of misrepresentation and in accurate coverage. Here are a few of examples of what is being said in the media and on social media:

From CNN’s website: “Experts: Angry Rhetoric Protected, But Can Be Disturbing — Letting disgruntled citizens vent is important to national security, experts say but some messages emanating from angry Americans in recent weeks have pressed the boundaries of free speech.” The article goes on to loosely analyze the Tea Party and other movements on both sides of the aisle. The problem is that the Tea Party is always compared to the more extreme side of grass root organizations.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/04/16/protests.protected.speech/index.html

From The New York Times: Tea Party Lights Fuse for Rebellion on Right

An excerpt – “These people are part of a significant undercurrent within the Tea Party movement that has less in common with the Republican Party than with the Patriot movement, a brand of politics historically associated with libertarians, militia groups, anti-immigration advocates and those who argue for the abolition of the Federal Reserve”. In this article there is an attempt to tie Tea Party members to the militia movement. In the end this just another mainstream media smear job.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/us/politics/16teaparty.html?hp=&pagewanted=all

In an even more biased and unfair smear, Time Magazine took this shot after Joe Stack crashed his plane into an IRS office in Austin Texas. Time Magazine immediately drew comparisons between Stack’s anti-government writing and a “Tea Party mentality”. Even though Stack never mentions the Tea Party in any writings Time was willing to draw the comparison anyway. In a passage from the article, reporter Hilary Hylton writes, “The White House was quick to say the incident was not a plot by overseas terrorists. But was it terrorism nevertheless? In his note, Stack was very clear he was unhappy with the U.S. government. He complained about onerous and merciless taxation of individuals like him as well as corruption and the special treatment the executives of big corporations allegedly received after their companies failed. And he seemed to be as emboldened as any suicide bomber.” Hylton also said Stack’s manifesto “eerily reflected the angry populist sentiments that have swept the country in the past year”. Using this line of reasoning everyone that is upset or angry with the government is a candidate to crash a plane into a building and kill themselves.

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1966476,00.html

The Washington Post took a similar path on this story. Jonathan Capehart wrote in the PostPartisan column for Post opinion writers, “Joseph Stack was angry at the Internal Revenue Service, and he took his rage out on it by slamming his single engine plane into the Echelon Building in Austin, Texas. We now know this thanks to the rather clear (as rants go) suicide note Stack left behind. There’s no information yet on whether he was involved in any anti-government groups or whether he was a lone wolf. But after reading his 34-paragraph screed, I am struck by how his alienation is similar to that we’re hearing from the extreme elements of the Tea Party movement.”

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/02/_joseph_stack_was_angry.html

And of course there is the famous Nancy Pelosi comments about the Tea Party:

“I think we all have to take responsibility for our actions and our words. We are a free country, and this balance between freedom and safety is one that we carefully balance. I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw — I saw this myself in the late `70s in San Francisco. This kind of rhetoric was very frightening, and it gave — it created a climate in which we — violence took place. And so I — I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made, understanding that some of the people — the ears that it is falling on are not as balanced as the person making the statement might assume. But again, our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe. But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause.”

Speaker Pelosi should be reminded that the people who scared her in the 70’s were from her side of the aisle. This brings me to my main point – why doesn’t the media give the same attention to the left? OK, it’s a rhetorical question. The bottom line is that most of the proceeding is innuendo and speculation. Look all movements attract some fringe element that will occasionally do something to make the main group look bad. However, when the media wants to stain a group they seek out the fringe and present them as the core. They also have a way of overlooking behavior of the left when it is unflattering. Here are some examples:

Do you remember this one?

April 9, 2010 LEFTIST PROTESTERS SUSPECTED IN BRUTAL BEATING OF GOP OFFICIAL & HER BOYFRIEND

A GOP official was savagely attacked after she left the Southern Republican Leadership Dinner last Friday night. Allee Butsch suffered a broken leg from an assault outside Brennan’s Restaurant in New Orleans. She had her leg which was broken in 5 places was operated on over the weekend. Her recovery will take several months. Her boyfriend Joe Brown suffered a broken nose, a broken jaw, and a concussion. They were attacked after leaving the Southern Republican Leadership Conference dinner at the restaurant.

Or this one?

August 6, 2009 Black Tea Party Activist Kenneth Gladney Beat by SEIU Thugs

During a demonstration Thursday evening outside a forum on aging called by U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-St. Louis, in Mehville, Missouri, a Tea Party supporter was viciously attacked by union thug.

“Kenneth was attacked on the evening of August 6, 2009 at Rep. Russ Carnahan’s town hall meeting in South St. Louis County,” writes Gladney’s attorney, David B. Brown, in an email sent to Infowars. “Kenneth was approached by an SEIU representative as Kenneth was handing out ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ flags to other conservatives. The SEIU representative demanded to know why a black man was handing out these flags. The SEIU member used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face. Kenneth fell to the ground. Another SEIU member yelled racial epithets at Kenneth as he kicked him in the head and back. Kenneth was also brutally attacked by one other male SEIU member and an unidentified woman. The three men were clearly SEIU members, as they were wearing T-shirts with the SEIU logo.”

So here are the facts – when liberals protest, (think: Cindy Sheehan, Code Pink, World Can’t Wait or Earth Liberation Front) the media more often sympathizes than criticizes. If you are not familiar with these groups I’d recommend you Google them and learn for yourself the kind of hate and disobedience they encourage. However, when conservatives exercise their rights to free speech and expression of their opinions the media is quick to characterize them as dangerous, racists or anti-government extremists. The mainstream media is so totally blinded by their left-wing bias that they all but condone what the left has been doing ever since Vietnam.

From the violent demonstrations outside the 1968 Chicago Democrat National Convention to violent left-wing agitators, such as Bill Ayers, who blew up the Pentagon, and the other Vietnam War era riots to recent riots against the meetings of the G5, the G8, the IMF, the WTO, it’s left-wing activists that have shown the most propensity for violence.

After Healthcare Reform passed we heard; politicians, such as Bart Stupak  have reported slurs as well as threatening letters and phone calls. Yet before the vote it was the left that was threatening Bart Stupak and his family with threatening letters and phone calls because angry pro-choicers thought he was going to change his vote. These were not Republicans or Tea Party people, they were from the left. It is the left that trains for and plans demonstrations and unruly protests. This type of behavior is inappropriate no matter which side delivers it but the left has a much richer tradition in this area.

So I ask you – where are the examples of violent demonstrations or rioting that was planned or organized by the Tea Party or other mainstream conservatives? Show me some real examples of ruckus and unruly protests planned by the Tea Party. Show me the people or organizations that train Tea Party members and conservatives how to riot? They simply doesn’t exist!

In possibly the most honest report that I have seen on the Tea Party, The Washington Post’s Robert McCartney writes, “I went to the “tea party” rally at the Washington Monument on Thursday to check out just how reactionary and potentially violent the movement truly was. Answer: Not very. Based on what I saw and heard, tea party members are not seething, ready-to-explode racists, as some liberal commentators have caricatured them.”

McCartney went on to say that he disagrees with 95% of their positions and there maybe some who are extreme or bigoted. (Note: It is worth mentioning that most of us who support the Tea Party also recognize this and we work to neutralize these individuals as they do not represent the core values of the movement. However it is impossible with a grassroots movement to entirely control the fringe that every large movement unwillingly attracts.) He went on to say, “Nevertheless, on the whole, they struck me as passionate conservatives dedicated to working within the system rather than dangerous militia types or a revival of the Ku Klux Klan. Although shrinking government is their primary goal, many conceded that the country should keep Medicare and even Social Security. None was clamoring for civil disobedience, much less armed revolt.”

I’ll leave you with these final thoughts. To continue to gain legitimacy with our fellow citizen’s regardless of their point of view, Tea Parties and conservatives must work to maintain a positive image. We must not allow our conservative movement to be legitimately characterized as extreme by rising to the race baiting, name calling and smear campaigns which will be launched against us. As John Adams said, “facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” If the facts continue to show that the core of this movement is based in civility and intelligent disagreement we can win. However, if we allow ourselves to be pulled down a path that frustrates us and brings out the worst in our character we will lose. We can not depend on fair media coverage – so be smart. We must work within the system to create the change we want. Be vigilant to ensure that the members of your groups behave with civility. Monitor your events and challenge those who bring inappropriate signs or behave in an inappropriate manner. They are a reflection on all of us.

We are making progress and waking the country up to our conservative message. Let’s give America an alternative to the path it is currently on. Let’s return to the values that were the foundation on which America was built. The time for choosing is here.

Update: The Tipping Point

In an effort to prove they are part of the mainstream media and are totally clueless about the national situation, Parade Magazine published the following story last Sunday (3/28/10). They also ran an online poll for Americans to respond to. Both were on the subject of our out of control spending and associated national debt.

Just Sunday I wrote a post on the subject in an attempt to bring focus on the potential disastrous effects the debt could have on our struggling economy. Later I found this article and was blown away by the nonchalant attitude of the writer with regard to the magnitude of the problem. See Parade article below:

Parade Magazine 3/28/10 – Rebecca Webber

Does America Owe Too Much?

Critics of government spending are voicing alarm about the growing national debt. In January, the U.S. public debt was $7.5 trillion—about 53% of the country’s total economic output, also known as gross domestic product (GDP). By comparison, Japan’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 192% and Saudi Arabia’s was 20% in 2009, according to the latest figures available. Economists use the ratio of public debt to GDP as an indicator of a country’s economic health. So what do these numbers mean? Is America’s debt level dangerous?

The short answer is, “No, but it might be soon.” A recent study from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that public-debt levels become perilous when they reach 90% of GDP. By that point, interest rates may be higher as investors demand greater returns on federal bonds, while massive interest payments detract from key government functions. “The interest can get so burdensome that the country can’t afford to repair its highways or educate its children or provide other essential services,” says Isabel Sawhill of the Brookings Institution. “You become a much weaker nation.” According to the Congressional Budget Office, U.S. public debt could approach 100% of GDP by 2020, given current spending levels and obligations for entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

Debt Around the World
America‘s public debt is now 53% of GDP. Here’s how other countries stack up.

France 80% of GDP
Canada 72%
U.K. 69%
India 60%
China 18%

So seriously, the debt level is not dangerous yet – but will be soon? How bad is bad? America – it is time to do something besides worry… like STOP spending money we don’t have! Maybe if there were some still serious journalists working somewhere they would use the space to give this issue appropriate coverage. It really doesn’t make me feel better to see that we are in the same boat with France or India.

They also included a link to a poll you could vote on. Here are the results of their on line poll:

Do you fear that our national debt will hurt our economy?

Yes 93%

No 7%
