Here’s your sign – “Obamao”

Back in April when President Obama bowed before the King of Saudi Arabia at the G-20 summit in London, The Washington Times called it a “shocking display of fealty to a foreign potentate”. It has been an American tradition of not deferring to any royalty going back to the days shortly after the Revolutionary War and the establishment of our democratic republic. After all was the reason we fought the war to break free of a monarchy that looked at the colonists as subjects instead of citizens?

The Washington Times went on to say, “By bending over to show greater respect to Islam, the US president belittled the power and independence of the United States. Such an act is a traditional obeisance befitting a king’s subjects, not his peer. There is no precedent for U.S. presidents bowing to Saudi or any other royals.”

The Weekly Standard agreed saying: “American presidents do not bow before foreign dignitaries, whether they are princes, kings, or emperors.” And yet….

In the end the official word was: The President did not bow. So here we go again …a new picture of President Obama this time, bowing to the emperor of Japan. It’s the kind of image that just doesn’t sit well with many Americans. The president, the representative of the United States and leader of the free world should not be bowing to foreign leaders, royal or not. Obama’s deep, subservient bow is embarrassing.

Miss Manners in a 2001 column said that bowing “is not an ordinary bit of foreign etiquette one might adopt out of courtesy when traveling. … Americans do not properly bow to any royalty. We show respect for other countries’ leaders the same way we do to our own.”

America was built on a constitution that calls for freedom, liberty and equality not a caste system of privilege. Article I Section 9 of the Constitution forbids titles of nobility and stipulates that no officeholder or government employee may “accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state” without the consent of Congress.

On this current sojourn in the Far East, Obama also claimed to be the first “Pacific President” referencing being born in Hawaii and growing up in Indonesia. He also made appearances in China where a curious thing happened – the Chinese have embraced Obama – cheering, carrying posters of Obama in a red army uniform and wearing “Obamao” T-shirts. There’s your sign! They get it why don’t many Americans – at a minimum he is a socialist.

We are at the turning point and we must take action now if we want to save our country. I believe at our core we are still a religious people that values family, faith and country. This President likes to say, “We are going to fundamentally transform America”. It is time to take back the control of our national destiny.
